The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) released yesterday the 2026 premiums for the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program (FEHB) and the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP).

Federal employees and retirees share of 2026 FEHB premiums will increase — on average — by 12.3%.  This is the another double-digit increase following a 13.5% jump in 2025.  Enrollees in PSHB — the program for USPS employees and annuitants — will see an 11.3% increase, on average, in their 2026 health insurance premiums.

According to OPM, dental coverage  (the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program —  or FEDVIP) will increase 3.3% on average.  Vision premiums will increase by an average of 0.5% next year.

It is important for FEHB enrollees to note that the 12.3% premium increase is an average. Individual federal employees and retirees may pay more or less, depending on the health plan chosen.  The federal government pays about 75% of a FEHB participant’s premium and about 72% of the weighted average of the previous year’s federal employees FEHB health insurance premiums.

Federal Benefits Open Season is November 10 through December 8, 2025. The annual open season gives federal employees and other eligible individuals the opportunity to review their FEHB and vision/dental (FEDVIP) plan options, make changes, and enroll for the upcoming benefit year that begins January 1, 2026.

2026 FEHB Premium Rate Charts from OPM

The 2026 FEHB premium rate charts below from the Office of Personnel Management provide information on biweekly and monthly premiums, including the total premiums, the amount the government pays, and the change in the enrollee’s portion of the premium compared to last year. All FEHB plans offer Self Only, Self Plus One, and Self and Family enrollment types.

Self Plus One Enrollee Premiums Greater Than Self and Family

In some cases, the enrollee share of premiums for the Self Plus One enrollment type will be higher than for the Self and Family enrollment type. Enrollees who wish to cover one eligible family member are free to elect either the Self and Family or Self Plus One enrollment type. The chart below identifies those plans.

Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB)

The 2026 biweekly maximum government contribution for most employees and annuitants (72% of the weighted average) is $324.76 for Self Only, $711.17 for Self Plus One, and $778.03 for Self and Family. The monthly maximum government contribution (72% of the weighted average) is $703.65 for Self Only, $1,540.87 for Self Plus One and $1,685.73 for Self and Family.
