At American Pacific Mortgage, our StaR Loan Program provides mortgage loans for public servants and the other heroes who serve our communities.

STaR Loan

Using STaR, APM Loan Advisors can provide mortgage assistance and specialized financing for:

  • Teachers, principals, and school counselors
  • Police officers and other city, county, and state law enforcement professionals
  • Firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics
  • Correctional and border patrol officers
  • Nurses

These professionals embody a commitment to service that strengthens the fabric of our society. At APM, we believe the sacrifices they make each day deserve recognition and celebration.

We created the STaR Loan Program to honor the contributions these dedicated professionals make to our communities every day. More than just a financial product, STaR is our way of saying thank you for their public service.

We aim to empower these everyday heroes to achieve their homeownership dreams. Through the program, we’re investing in the people who make our neighborhoods safer and healthier places to live.

What Is the STaR Loan Program?

APM offers this program to help public servants save a little money on their home loans. It provides reduced closing costs for many refinancing and home loan programs, whether the customer is actively serving or retired.

STaR can be used with several home loan programs, including FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional home loan programs.

Who Qualifies for STaR?

The STaR Loan Program is open to both active and retired professionals in eligible fields. To qualify for STaR, you must fall into one of the following categories.

1. Teachers, principals, and school counselors

  • Those currently employed full-time with a teaching credential in a public or private K-12 school.
  • Those retired from such a position.

  • Those retired from such a position.

3. Firefighters and first responders

  • Those currently employed full-time as a firefighter, EMT, or paramedic with a city, county, state, or private company.
  • Those retired from such a position.

4. Correctional officers and border patrol agents

  • Those currently employed full-time with city, county, or state law enforcement as a correctional officer or border patrol agent.
  • Those retired from such a position.

5. Nurses

  • Those currently employed full-time as a registered nurse (RN) or licensed vocational nurse (LVN) in a hospital or clinic.
  • Those retired from such a position.

How to qualify

If you qualify, you can use this program to buy your first home, buy a new home, or refinance to reduce your loan term, interest rate, or monthly payments. Whatever your goals, we’re here to make the process of obtaining a mortgage loan a little bit easier.

Here’s how to qualify:

  1. Present proof of your employment status in an eligible profession.
  2. Retired professionals must provide proof of retirement (for example, a retirement statement).
  3. Choose the best loan type for you (FHA, VA, USDA, or conventional).
  4. Meet standard loan requirements for your chosen product and loan amount.

Benefits of the Program

At APM, we’ve designed this program to make homeownership more accessible for teachers, law enforcement, and first responders. Here’s how our specialty program makes getting a home loan more affordable:

  • Save up to $500 in underwriting fees.
  • Pay as little as $300 for branch processing fees.
  • Combine with down payment assistance. You can use gift funds for 100% of your down payment.
  • Combine STaR with lender-paid mortgage insurance to keep your monthly payment low.
