Starting Nov. 3, 2025, the card will be rebranded, and existing holders will be sent a different Citi-issued Mastercard with a new rewards program. Citi says members will receive more information about the new card and rewards program at that time. Until that date, cardholders can continue using their cards to earn points as usual.

The Shop Your Way Mastercard has long been a unique and popular retail credit card thanks to its lucrative and recurring limited-time spending bonuses, which often offer existing customers upwards of 15% cash back, making them potentially worth hundreds of dollars, depending on the promotion. One-time welcome bonuses on credit cards are common, but they’re typically for new cardholders only, and they’re usually not recurring.

In addition to those valuable offers, the card also earns high ongoing rewards in common spending categories, though point values are low. It offers 5% back in points on gas station purchases and 3% back in points on eligible restaurant and grocery store purchases (up to the first $10,000 of combined spending in those categories per calendar year), and 1% after that. Plus, through the Shop Your Way shopping portal, cardholders can earn 2% back in points on eligible Shop Your Way merchant purchases and 1% back in points on other eligible purchases.

Participating Shop Your Way merchants include Sears, Kmart, Home Depot, Macy’s, Walmart and Walgreens, among thousands of other popular brands.

A bit of history

In 2017, Citi and Sears launched the Shop Your Way Mastercard. And although Sears filed for bankruptcy in October 2018, a limited number of Sears stores remained open, and the card continued accepting new applications.

There was also a separate Sears Mastercard, but it was converted to the Citi ThankYou® Mastercard® in April 2025. The new card earns Citi ThankYou points, which can be redeemed for travel through the issuer, or for cash back, gift cards, purchases with eligible merchants and more.

Information related to the Sears Mastercard, the Citi ThankYou® Mastercard® and the Shop Your Way Mastercard has been collected by SS and has not been reviewed or provided by the issuer of this card.
