His expert analyzes contain in many legitimate financial videos published on the social media accounts of the FT, but scammers have generated a wave of convincing deep fake video images on Instagram, where he seems to offer investment advice.

Meta, owner of WhatsApp and Instagram, has told the FT that it has removed and disabled the advertisements, but readers would be wise to pay attention to more scam of this nature as DeepFake -welter -welping mainstream goes.
What is behind the increase in deepfake scams?
The rapid rise of generative AI (artificial intelligence). The technology needed to make synthetic videos and images is cheap, immediately available and easy for scammers to use to make convincing -looking content.

“Deepfakes work like a charm for the scammers, because many social media users simply do not know what generative AI is capable of making convincing imitation videos,” he said. “They see a video such as the deep food of Martin Wolf and believe that it is really because they just don’t have the information to question it.”

“I would not trust an advertisement with a celebrity if you have only seen him on social media when it comes to investments or diet or one of the other scam areas,” he said. “If it has me in it, I will never do advertisements, so it’s fake. Which other forms can take deep sections of videos?
Celebrities are not the only ones whose images can be cloned. Fraud experts say that deep -traps are increasingly being used on video calls to present themselves to senior employees at business organizations, so that other staff members are persuaded to process payments that prove to be fraudulent.
Last year, the British engineering firm Arup lost $ 25 million (£ 20 million) when an employee in Hong Kong was persuaded to make 15 bank transfers after scammers digitally cloned the company’s chief financial officer on a video conference.

What else should social media platforms do?
Although social media platforms say they will use face recognition to spot and get fake ads, they don’t have to stay up for long to get a grip.
As Martin Wolf himself said: “How is it possible that a company such as Meta cannot automatically identify and down its enormous resources, including artificial intelligence tools, such fraud, especially when they are aware of their existence?”
Meta said the FT: “It is against our policy to think about public figures and we have removed the advertisements, accounts and pages and disabled people who were shared with us.
“Scammers are ruthless and constantly develop their tactics to avoid detection, which is why we are constantly developing new ways to make it more difficult for scammers to mislead others – including the use of face recognition technology,” Meta added.
“The simple fact is that when these videos are placed on social media as advertisements, they go through a bedding process,” said Stapleton. “If Meta as Meta would simply consider investing more of their enormous profit in Better Scoundation, and better moderation of general messages, this would be a problem less quickly.”
Under the new online safety law of the UK, technology companies must set performance goals to quickly remove illegal material when they become aware and test algorithms to make illegal content more difficult to spread.
How can you see a video is probably a deepfake?
Stapleton’s top tip for spotting digitally manipulated images is to look at the person’s mouth who supposedly talks on the camera: does it really make the forms of the words? Then look at their skin: is it flat in texture, without definition or wrinkles? And look at their eyes: do they blink at all, or way too much?
Finally listen to the tone of their voice. “AI is struggling with the range of human voices, so deep will tend to sound very flat and even in tone and to miss emotion,” he said.
The deep fake video of the ft wolf did not sound much like him, but like so many users of social media watching videos about Silent and reading the captions, the scammers get a further benefit.
Finally, mainly be wary of advertisements on social media. If you cannot find the information that has been reported somewhere else, this is almost certainly a fake.
