For customers, the benefits of a credit union can include lower fees and higher savings rates. For employees, they include pickleball, food trucks and Biggest Loser contests.

Sixty-eight credit unions have made this year’s list of the Best Credit Unions to Work For, and they offer a wide variety of perks to their workers. Benefits range from the practical (discounts on auto loans) to the altruistic (paid time off for volunteer work) to the unusual (free cardio drumming classes).

As in past years, the winners were determined by American Banker and the consulting firm Best Companies Group, which ranked the applicants according to two surveys — one of employers and one of employees.

The first survey asked credit union leaders detailed questions about their workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second questionnaire asked workers about their own experience, covering everything from pay and benefits to company leadership.

The result is a list of 68 very different employers, united by their high levels of employee satisfaction. Winners varied widely in headcount (from 29 employees to 2,149), in total assets (from $2.9 million to $22 billion) and in geography (from Spokane, Washington, to Tampa, Florida).

Across the board, employees gave these credit unions high marks as places to work. According to Best Companies’ survey, 92% of the respondents felt positively about their supervisor, 89% felt satisfied with their role at the company, and 88% felt confident in their company’s leadership and planning.

Below is the full list of the best credit unions to work for in 2025, according to their own workers. Asset sizes and employee headcounts were provided by the credit unions at the time they applied.
