The lovely people over at Which have checked the prices of popular toys at the UK’s biggest toy retailers and found us the cheapest options. There is a shocking 26% difference across the board.

The television is currently a danger zone in my house. With the constant embarassment of joy on offer to the kids, it is hard for them to understand that they can’t simply have one of everything they see. “But Santa pays” was one retort. I seem to have given the big lad too much credit…

The popular consumer magazine put together a put together a trolley of 49 popular toys for children from birth to school age, and calculated their average prices* at major toy retailers Amazon, Argos, Smyths Toys and The Entertainerbetween 18 September and 18 October 2023 and revealed which was the cheapest.

And the cheapest was…

AMAZON!

Other ways to shop for cheap toys.

However, whilst this was the cheapest for branded items, don’t forget to shop around for other toys.

  • Supermarkets also often have a great and cheap range of toys.
  • Consider Olio and YoungPlanet apps. Both have free things that people want to get rid of. My friend got a brand new bike on Young Planet last year and I have been singing their praises ever since.
  • Look online for budget toy shops. Kids Stuff for Less has some fab stocking fillers for less than £1, as do Toys for £1, also always have a look in The Works and TK Maxx.
  • Do a Toy Swap with other parents and exchange things that your child isn’t playing with. This is fab for recycling and a great way to share things whilst your child is growing so fast. Most parents I know do this with clothes already – so why not mix it up and add toys to the mix.

Whatever happens, don’t bust yourself this christmas. Don’t let Jingle All the Way convince you that these toys will ruin your child’s life.

Let us know some of the requests on your child’s Christmas list in the comments, and see whether the MoneyMagpie community can help.
